McIntyre Ski Area is the closest ski resort to Manchester at just five minutes away from downtown. It’s far from New Hampshire’s biggest ski resort, but it is well-loved by locals and out-of-towners looking for something close. It opened in 1971 and is pretty modest with just 9 runs and four chairlifts. McIntyre has a base elevation of 340 feet, a peak elevation of 510 feet, and a vertical drop of 169 feet. The resort offers tubing, ski lessons, equipment rentals and The Hill Bar & Grille.

Pats Peak Ski Area

Henniker, NH

Half an hour away from downtown Manchester, Pats Peak Ski Area offers family-friendly, picturesque skiing. The resort features a 690-foot base elevation, a 1,460-foot peak and a 770-foot vertical drop. There are 115 skiable acres with 28 runs in total, about half of which are beginner, and the other half are intermediate to expert. The resort offers night skiing, lessons, daycare, home-cooked food and tubing on the weekends.

Crotched Mountain

Crotched Mountain offers 100 acres of impeccably groomed terrain, tree glades, and challenging steeps, less than an hour from Manchester. The resort is known for its amazing powder. Add that to the resort’s 1,000-foot vertical drop and it’s a New Hampshire must. Crotched Mountain Resort has 25 runs that skew toward intermediate and advanced, plus three terrain parks. They also offer late night skiing, lessons, equipment rental and New Hampshire’s only high-speed detachable quad chairlift.

Mount Sunapee Resort

Mount Sunapee Resort claims the biggest mountain in southern New Hampshire as its home.  The resort opened over seven decades ago and offers 67 trails and slopes on its 233 skiable acres. With a 1,510 feet vertical drop, Mount Sunapee also claims the biggest drop in southern New Hampshire. It has 18 beginner trails, 32 intermediate and 17 advanced. The resort’s longest trail is 2 miles. The resort also has four terrain parks, four mogul runs, nine glades and a total of nine lifts. It’s about an hour from Manchester.
