At just two hours from NYC, Windham Mountain offers 1,600 vertical feet of skiing with 54 trails on its 285 skiable acres. You’ll find everything from novice trails to steep double black diamond runs, six terrain parks as well as ice skating, snowboarding, tubing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Expansive snowmaking, nightly grooming and first-class amenities give this New York ski resort a country club like feel.
Hunter Mountain Resort
Hunter, NY
A little farther and a little bigger than Windham, Hunter Mountain Resort claims to be the closest big mountain to New York City. The mountain has four separate faces with a tremendous variety of terrain for skiers and riders of all ability levels. The resort offers 320 skiable acres with 67 trails, a 1,600 ft vertical drop, four gladed areas and four terrain parks. Known for its high-quality maintenance and grooming, it’s one of the most popular ski resorts near New York City and sometimes gets a bit crowded.
Camelback Resort
Tannersville, PA
Offering the tallest peaks in The Poconos, Camelback Resort is only an hour and half from New York City. It was recently voted one of the best Ski Resorts in the US and Canada by Conde’ Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. The family-friendly resort offers 166 acres of skiable terrain with 39 ski trails for all skill levels. It also has an award-winning ski school, three ski-in/ski-out restaurants and the largest snowtubing park in Pennsylvania.
Belleayre Mountain Ski Center
Highmount, NY
Belleayre is a top-rated family-friendly mountain, located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains about two and half hours from New York City. You’ll find long cruising trails, bumps, glades, parks, steeps, and a whole bunch of fun as well as a sizeable 1,400-foot vertical drop. The resort offers 50 trials across its 174 skiable acres accessible from eight lifts including a high-speed gondola, almost 10 km of cross country trails, and four lodges.
Thunder Ridge Ski Area
Patterson, NY
Thunder Ridge Ski Area is on the small side with just 22 trails, three chairlifts and four magic carpets, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in proximity and convenience. It is the closest ski resort to NYC and the easiest to reach by public transportation. Just 60 minutes north of NYC in rolling hills of Patterson, New York, the resort offers slow and gentle slopes for beginners and advanced trails for the more daring, as well as a spacious, slope-side lodge with cafeteria and pub and stunning panoramic views.
