Where to Ski Near Reno, NV

There are a ton of ski resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe, near Reno as well as others dotting the state from the far reaches of the northern corner all the way down to Las Vegas. Here are a few that topped our list if you are looking for places to ski in the Reno, NV area.

Mt Rose – Ski Tahoe

Mount Rose lays claim to the highest ski resort in both Nevada and in the Lake Tahoe area. It’s base elevation starts at 8,260 feet and rises to a breathtaking 9,700. At about 25 minutes from Reno, it is the closest ski resort to the city. It offers supreme snow conditions and a great family vibe.

Diamond Peak

A little bit farther from Reno, you’ll find Diamond Peak, a community-owned gem of a ski resort. It’s located above Incline Village and offers panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and miles of welcoming runs on its 655 acres of terrain. The resort has 6 chairlifts, 30 runs, open glades, and tree skiing with a base elevation of 6,700 feet and a 1,840 foot vertical drop.

Lee Canyon

Las Vegas, NV

Forty-five minutes from The Strip, Lee Canyon is the only ski resort in southern Nevada. It sits atop the lofty Mount Charleston piling up nearly 11 feet of snow each year. The resort has 24 trails serviced by three lifts on its 445 acres and a vertical drop of 860 feet.

Northstar

Truckee, CA

Just across the border, 36 miles from Reno lies the extinct volcano, Mount Pluto, and Northstar. This luxury ski resort offers a one-of-a-kind winter oasis with impeccably groomed slopes, fireside hot cocoas and an expansive 3,000 acres skiable mountainside. There are 100 trails, glades, 8 terrain parks, 400acres of advanced terrain and sweeping views of Lake Tahoe.

South Lake Tahoe, CA

Many people think that Heavenly is a California ski resort, but they are only half right. The resort actually straddles the state line, putting part of it in Nevada and making it the state’s largest ski resort with over 4,800 acres of skiable terrain. It’s just over an hour from Reno, NV. You’ll find long cruisers, steep chutes, endless mogul runs, two terrain parks, backcountry skiing topped with nearly 30 feet of snow and 300 days of clear blue sky.
