Sugarloaf

Carrabassett Valley, ME

Sugarloaf is the largest resort on the East Coast. It’s a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Portland, nestled in the western mountains in Carrabassett Valley. Sugarloaf boasts the second-highest peak in the state at a staggering 4,237 feet. Among its 1,056 skiable acres you’ll find over 154 trails for Nordic and cross-country skiing. There’s also a terrain park, glades, fat biking, Cat skiing, adaptive skiing and lessons.

Sunday River

Newry, ME

Less than two hours from Portland and with trails rivaling Sugarloaf, Sunday River Ski Resort is another world-class ski resort in the Portland-Auburn, ME area. The resort spans eight interconnected mountain peaks, offering a total of 820 acres of skiable terrain with a 2,340-foot vertical drop, 135 trails, 15 lifts and a new high-speed Chondola. It’s a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

Shawnee Peak

Bridgton, ME

Shawnee is the longest operating ski resort in Maine. It’s about 45 minutes from Portland. The summit offers incredible views of Mount Washington and Moose Pond.  There are 40 trails to explore, seven glades and three terrain parks. Ninety-eight percent of the terrain here is covered with snowmaking. The resort also offers the largest night skiing in all of New England.

Lost Valley

Auburn, ME

Lost Valley has been a family owned and operated ski area for three generations. This 240-foot ski hill is on the smaller side with just 15 trails, but it still offers great skiing, day and night, just five minutes from downtown Auburn in the Greater Portland Region. There’s about five miles of groomed trails for Nordic skiing, adaptive skiing, racing, snowshoeing and fat-tire biking, plus ski by the hour tickets.

Camden Snow Bowl

Camden, ME

There aren’t many places where you find stunning ocean views and a thrilling ski adventure. In fact, Camden Snow Bowl is the only place in Maine offering both. And while it only offers 850 vertical feet, both the Spinnaker and Northeaster trails provide excellent views of Penobscot Bay below. Less than two hours from Portland, Camden offers a truly unique experience, 12 trails, day and night skiing, a snow tubing hill, a 400′ Toboggan chute and ice skating on the pond.
