Spring Mountain

Spring Mount, Pennsylvania

At under an hour from Philadelphia, Spring Mountain is the closest ski area to the city. It’s not far and not all that big, but it does offer everything you need for a fun and thrilling ski trip. Spring Mountain has 9 runs, a terrain park and 6 lifts on its 45 acres of skiable terrain. It offers a 450-foot vertical drop from its 582-foot summit. They offer night skiing, 100% snowmaking coverage, ski and snowboard lessons and an on-site pub.

Bear Creek Mountain Resort

Macungie, Pennsylvania

Just over an hour’s drive from Philly in Berks County is another ski resort. Bear Creek Mountain Resort offers loads of excitement for every level of skier. The resort packs 23 trails and 21 runs on its 86 acres. There’s an excellent beginner’s area with a carpet lift and a triple chair lift, but the big draw here is the challenging “Sasquatch.” This heart-stopping black diamond trail boasts a 50% slope.

Blue Mountain Resort

Palmerton, Pennsylvania

About an hour and half from Philly, Blue Mountain Resort is one of the best ski destinations you’ll find in the state. Located in the Poconos, it boasts the steepest incline in the state with a 1,082-foot vertical. The resort’s 171 acres offer something for everyone with 40 runs, 16 lifts, five terrain parks and the largest snow tubing park in the country.

Blue Knob

Claysburg, Pennsylvania

In the heart of the Allegheny mountains, Blue Knob All Seasons Resort is a 4  hour drive from Philadelphia, but with 100 skiable acres and 34 trails, it’s well worth the trip. The resort lays claim to the highest skiable mountain in the state with some of the most challenging slopes around. The higher elevation makes for good snow and a vertical drop of 1,072 feet means nice long runs.

Seven Springs Mountain Resort

Champion, Pennsylvania

The biggest and possibly best ski resort in the Philadelphia area is Seven Springs. It’s 100 miles southwest of Pittsburgh and over 4 hours from Philly. It is now part of Vail Resorts and offers the ultimate skiing or snowboarding experience with 285 acres of skiable terrain, 33 slopes and trails, serviced by 10 lifts. The resort has seven terrain parks, a halfpipe and a super pipe. The terrain parks are often referred to as the best in the East.
