Spokane, WA Ski Resorts
Situated along the Spokane River by the Selkirk Mountains and the foothills of the Rockies, adventure awaits you in Spokane. Here’s a rundown of the five ski resorts that are within two hours of Spokane.
Mt. Spokane Ski Area
Mt. Spokane is the closest ski resort to Spokane and the region’s only nonprofit Ski Area. It’s located at the top of the iconic Mt. Spokane, just 34 miles from city center. The ski area provides epic skiing and snowboarding with 52 runs, seven lifts, an impressive terrain park, comprehensive ski school and a welcoming community. The resort boasts a 2,000 ft vertical drop and a sprawling 1,400 acres of terrain.
49 Degrees North Mountain Resort
49° North Mountain Resort offers adventure for everyone. A traditional Northwest resort, you’ll find wide open groomed runs, moguls, desert dried powder and hundreds of acres of legendary tree skiing. The resort is about an hour and a half from Spokane near Chewelah. The ski resort offers 2,325 acres of terrain with a 1,850 ft vertical drop, seven chairlifts, a single conveyor lift and mostly intermediate level runs.
Silver Mountain Resort
Just over the Idaho border, you’ll find Silver Mountain Resort. This family-friendly resort is in Kellogg, an hour east of Spokane and is best known for its plentiful powder and lack of crowds. The resort spans two mountain peaks and 1,600 acres. It has a 2,200 ft vertical drop, seven lifts including a single-stage gondola, and gets an average of 340 inches of snow each year. The terrain skews towards advanced skiers with half their runs being rated as challenging.
Schweitzer Mountain Resort
Schweitzer is located 90 miles from Spokane in the rugged Selkirk Mountains of Idaho’s Panhandle. The resort is the largest in the Spokane area with 2,900 acres of skiable terrain and a 2,400 ft vertical drop. It offers a mix of high angle groomers, gladed tree runs and wide-open bowl skiing and riding, as well as family-friendly activities, dining, spa, and slope side lodging. There are 92 trails in total, the majority of which are intermediate and advanced.
Lookout Pass Ski Area
On the Idaho / Montana border, Lookout Pass ski rests on crest of the Bitterroot mountains. The resort claims to be the home of the best snow and with an average of more than 400 inches of light, dry powder each year, it’s hard to argue against that. Their recent Eagle Peak expansion has nearly doubled the size of the resort, giving them 1,023 skiable acres and a 1,650 ft vertical drop. There are 52 named runs and prime powder glades.
